Boat Crash Training

On July 18th 2006 the Cozad Fire and Rescue conducted a training out at Cozad I-80 lake.

The scenario was set up as a boat/jet ski accident. Members of the Cozad Fire and Rescue were called to the scene with two injured victims in the water with a third person in the water assisting the critically injured victim.

The first thing after the call came in was to notify Air Care to go on standby. The second thing was to look over the scene and to get a boat in route.

Once the boat arrived, rescuers loaded up equipment and headed to the crash site were the victims were accessed and the decision was to get Air Care in flight to the scene. The rescuers then loaded the first victim onto a back board and pulled him to the shore where other member took over care so that the boat could go out for the 2nd victim.

The 2nd victim was put on a backboard and lifted onto the front of the boat where they took her to shore.

After the training was completed the Cozad Fire and Rescue conducted a debriefing.

Gary Banzhaf (Training Officer) Marlene Williams (Assitant Rescue Chief) were in charge of the training.

A special thanks to all member who participated in this much needed training.
