2003 State Wrestling First Round Pairings--Class B
Districts
B-4
The Cozad Haymakers set out on the long journey to Alliance for the B-4 Districts and to prove they are as good as every one says they are. They proved that point well. They had been hoping to qualify thirteen for state, they came in close to that goal with twelve, and finished on top winning the tournament with 227 points. 82 points more than second place Gering. Micah Chrisinger pinned his way to the finals and then won by tech fall with his final opponent to take the gold.
Kyle Banzhaf won his first match by decision and then took his next two matches to overtime winning a 9-7 decision over Devin Dennis to qualify, then finished second in the finals. Tyler Sturgeon won his first match but then lost his second match to Alex Maldonada of Gerng, but fought his way back to qualify in third place. Andrew Chrisinger qualified fourth in a tough bracket where the #1 seed wrestler pinned himself in the first match, leaving him to face Andrew in the consolation finals. Joel Pflaster brought home the gold in a hard fought battle against Nathan Stabnow of Alliance. Justin Lemmer qualified with a second place finish against James Miller of Gering. Logan Hart placed third, pinning Jake Slater of Holdrege. Justin Kinnan brought home the gold with a decision over Andy Hollibaugh of Chadron. Jordan Kinnan also brought home the gold, beating Joey Rubenthaler of Gothenburg. Ryan Wolf placed fourth losing a well wrestled tough match against Tim Koob of Gering. Cale Osborn qualified at second place losing only to #1 rated Doug Risseuw of Valentine. Heath Jacob brought in a third place finish beating Toby Hite of Gothenburg. Eric Sanner lost to Stuart Frazier of McCook who now has the record of the most all time wins for class B at 145 wins. Seth Wiesen also lost a heartbreaking match against Tristan Taylor of Chardon.
The Haymakers head to Lincoln next weekend with high hopes and lots of determination and enthusiasm. You can bet they will be at their best and fighting for every team point they can get to try and win the state tournament. It has been an incredible season, let's make it an incredible finish. Good Luck Guys! The whole town will be cheering you on.
